Wedding dress trends
It is interesting to see the new trends in wedding dresses, which add something novel and exciting to the traditional wedding dress, while at the same time retaining its time-honored style and beauty.
Today’s brides are now adding such embellishments as complex and pretty beadwork, embroidery, lace, rhinestone brooches and silk rosettes to their dresses. These additions may be in the customary white, but are increasingly in other hues, adding an unexpected dash of colour to the long-established white dress.
Some brides are even taking this a step further and departing from the much-loved white wedding dress altogether, by choosing dresses in champagne, pink, platinum, and even red. One former punk rocker of my acquaintance took the new trends to a new level completely, and got married in a stylish black wedding dress. “People know me, I’m different”, she says, “I always have to do things opposite to everyone else”.
It is worth noting that in many cultures, wedding dresses have always been colorful, with red being the traditional color for a wedding dress in some parts of India.
Bare arms and shoulders are still popular, with a wrap or shawl for either warmth or sun protection. If you are marrying in a cool climate, faux-fur, velvet, heavy satin, or pashmina, make pretty wraps and shawls. If you are in a warm place, then lightweight textiles such as organza, lace, tulle and chiffon, make good wraps. Again, these accessories can be in white, or a more adventurous color.
The new trends leave brides with even more choice than ever.
