Best Wedding Gifts for the New Couple

Bath Towels. Bowls. And don’t forget the sheets. Those are the Wedding presents that I remember getting. Is it what I wanted? Well…not really, no. Since we are right in the middle of wedding season, I have decided to poll my friends- those who are married, and those who are getting married- to see what the most popular gifts are. Because I do not want to be remembered as the person who gave bath towels at the wedding, and I am sure you do not, either!

Number One – Cash is king! That’s right, folks! Money talks! Everyone I polled said the number one gift is cold hard cash! Whether because they need some extra cash for their honeymoon, to save up for a new home, or to pay off student loans, nothing says ” I love you, and wish you well,” more than a nice check in an envelope!

Number Two – An expensive gift off their registry. If you don’t have the cash to fork up for it, see if you and some other guests can pitch in together and get it. Chances are, the couple never expects to receive it, but is somehow hoping that maybe, just maybe… make that dream come true. I, by the way, am still waiting on my $400 “kitchen aid stand mixer”. Would have enjoyed it more than the towels and sheets combined!

Number Three – A Personalized wedding gift, whether it is a bottle of wine with a custom label (you can make one yourself or have a printing company make one for you!) The possibilities are endless, almost everything these days can be personalized- from Afghan throws embroidered with the couples name and wedding date, a photo album with their wedding invitation embossed on the front, or a clock that will become a family heirloom. My personal favorite is to have a gift basket delivered to their hotel room for the wedding night. Include a bottle of champagne and some flowers and munchies. Trust me, it will be a hit and well remembered!

Giving a wonderful and unique gift does not mean you spent the most money. The best gifts are the ones that truly come from the heart. No, this does not mean make a Popsicle house and call it a model of their new home, but rather give a gift that took some effort to think about. And was thought of with love.
