All weddings need to have a reception of some kind that follows the wedding ceremony.  This gives both families a chance to get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere.  It is also a time where the new bride and groom can share a nice meal with all of their guests officially as husband and wife.

If your catering is not included at the place you decide to have your reception, you will have to find a quality caterer on your own to handle the event.  But before looking for a caterer, you will need to know the time and date of the reception so that they can see if they have time to schedule in your reception. 

Make sure the caterers you are looking at will have quick and easy access to the place of your reception so that you don’t ending up serving spoiled food to your guests.  What a memory that would be!

Know your budget before you start looking and make sure your that with your initial contact to a caterer, you let them know what it is so that they can tell you if they can work within your budget.  There’s no sense in wasting time with a caterer if they are priced too far out of your price range.

Start asking around to see what caterers your family and friends are aware of.  It’s always better to work from a referral rather than just calling numbers at random out of the yellow pages.   Only make your calls after you have a good idea about the service and food that they provide.  Of course, if you are using a wedding planner, ask her to recommend a quality caterer for you to use at your wedding reception.  She may know of the perfect one that will suit your needs.

After you have narrowed down the choice of caterers to only 2, you can set an appointment to meet with them for a taste test.  Make sure the food that you get to taste is what will be on your menu so that there are no surprises on  your big day.  The caterer’s will be able to help you work out what will be on your menu, if you haven’t already decided.

While at the taste testing, take a few different people with you to get a wide range of feedback about how they liked or disliked the food.  This is the only accurate way to know what the food will taste like to your wedding guests.
